BriaPro Therapeutics, a majority-owned subsidiary of BriaCell Therapeutics, is developing novel, high-affinity antibodies targeting B7-H3, a molecule implicated in cancer progression. B7-H3’s presence on both tumor and immune cells makes it a promising target for cancer therapies. BriaPro intends to use these antibodies in the development of antibody-drug conjugates, T cell engagers, and immune checkpoint inhibitors, and has filed US patent applications for this technology.
This development is potentially crucial for advancing cancer treatment. B7-H3’s dual role as an immune checkpoint and tumor-associated antigen offers a unique opportunity to develop therapies that directly target cancer cells while also modulating the immune response against them. This approach could lead to more effective and potentially less toxic cancer treatments. Focusing on B7-H3 allows for the targeted activation of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes within the tumor microenvironment, potentially minimizing off-target effects commonly seen with less selective cancer therapies.
BriaPro plans to integrate these anti-B7-H3 antibodies into its Bria-TILsRx™ platform. This platform combines T cell engagers to destroy tumor cells and targeted immune checkpoint modulators to enhance the activity of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. The development of these antibodies is still in its early stages, with preclinical testing expected to validate their efficacy. Patent applications have been filed in the US, with plans for international applications via the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
This research represents a significant step toward potentially more effective cancer therapies. The development of these novel antibodies could transform BriaPro’s Bria-TILsRx™ platform and offer a new avenue for treating a range of solid tumors. While preclinical and clinical trials are necessary to confirm their efficacy and safety in humans, the targeting of B7-H3 holds promise for future cancer treatment paradigms.
