Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Merus N.V. have entered into a research collaboration to develop novel dual tumor-associated antigen (TAA) targeting trispecific antibodies using Merus’ Triclonics® technology. This collaboration combines Merus’ expertise in developing multispecific antibodies with Gilead’s experience in oncology to explore innovative cancer treatments.
Merus will lead early research activities for two programs, with an option for a third, leveraging its proprietary technology to generate antibodies capable of binding to three distinct targets simultaneously. Gilead will have the option to license the developed programs after specific research milestones are met and will then oversee further development and commercialization.
Merus receives an upfront payment of $56 million and a $25 million equity investment from Gilead. The potential total value of the collaboration could reach up to $1.5 billion, including additional payments, development and commercialization milestones, and royalties on future product sales. For a third potential program, Merus has the option to share in profits and losses instead of receiving milestones and royalties.
The partnership underscores the shared commitment of Gilead and Merus to advance cancer research and address unmet medical needs through novel therapeutic approaches.
