TISSIUM’s COAPTIUM® CONNECT System, a novel sutureless solution for peripheral nerve repair, has shown promising results in a clinical study presented at the IFSSH Congress. The study demonstrated 100% procedural success in repairing digital nerve injuries, with all patients regaining full digit function and reporting no pain at one year. This innovative approach addresses the limitations of traditional suture-based nerve repair, which can cause further trauma and inconsistent recovery.
This development is particularly important for patients suffering from peripheral nerve injuries, offering a potentially less invasive and more effective treatment option. The prospective, single-arm study involved 12 patients with digital nerve injuries, 10 of whom completed the one-year follow-up. The COAPTIUM® CONNECT System uses a bioresorbable, light-activated polymer and a protective coaptation chamber, eliminating the need for sutures. No device-related complications or neuromas were observed during the study period. The system’s atraumatic nature is a significant advantage, as it preserves nerve integrity and promotes healing.
This positive clinical data signifies a potential paradigm shift in nerve repair. The COAPTIUM® CONNECT System could become a preferred method for surgeons, offering a simpler, less traumatic, and potentially more effective approach.
