YPrime has spent more than two years building AI into its eCOA, IRT, and eConsent workflows quietly, and is now formalizing that bet: the company named Greg Wellbrock its first Chief Data and AI Officer, a title that did not exist at the company before today. That signal matters because vendor AI claims in clinical technology tend to outrun execution, and YPrime is staking its competitive positioning on the opposite approach: data quality as the prerequisite, automation as the output.

Wellbrock joined YPrime over two years ago to lead its data organization, and the work his team has already shipped is specific enough to evaluate. AI-supported processes accelerated study configuration, cut the time needed to implement mid-study protocol changes, and sped product releases, all in regulated research environments where a shortcut in data governance is a compliance failure. That operational track record is what distinguishes this hire from a title change. The new role consolidates data architecture, AI strategy, and platform delivery under one accountable executive rather than distributing those decisions across functions.

YPrime’s stated policy on sponsor data deserves attention: the company does not apply sponsor clinical data to AI initiatives unless the sponsor or CRO explicitly authorizes it. That boundary is a direct response to the concern most sponsors raise when a technology partner starts talking about machine learning, namely who controls the training data and under what conditions. The company also received the 2025 Clinical Trials Arena Excellence Award for Innovation in AI in Clinical Trials, specifically for its domain-specific AI targeting paper COA translation migration into eCOA software, a workflow that historically absorbs months of localization work across multiple languages. YPrime operates in more than 100 countries with solutions in over 250 languages, so that particular application is not incidental; it addresses a recurring bottleneck in global study startup.

The recognition continues to stack: the company was named to Everest Group’s Top 50 Pharmaceutical Technology Providers for 2026 and recognized as a Leader in Everest Group’s 2025 eCOA PEAK Matrix Assessment. The practical test for Wellbrock’s appointment is whether the unified data-and-AI strategy shortens the gap between protocol amendment approval and the moment a typical site enrolls its first patient under the revised version, because that interval is where sponsors feel the cost most directly.
