ArriVent BioPharma anticipates topline data from its global Phase 3 FURVENT trial in early 2026. The trial is evaluating firmonertinib as a first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancersmall cell lung cancerlung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations. Enrollment for the 398-patient study, conducted in partnership with Allist, was completed in Q1 2025.

This trial is important because it addresses an unmet need for NSCLC patients with exon 20 insertion mutations, who generally have poorer outcomes with existing therapies. Positive results could position firmonertinib as a first-line treatment option for these patients, significantly impacting their prognosis and potentially altering the standard of care. The trial directly compares firmonertinib at two different doses (160 mg and 240 mg, once daily) against the current standard of care, platinum-based chemotherapy with pemetrexed. This head-to-head comparison is crucial for establishing firmonertinib’s efficacy and potential advantages. The study includes key secondary endpoints related to brain metastases, a common occurrence in NSCLC, further adding to the trial’s clinical relevance.

The FURVENT trial is a pivotal study designed to support regulatory submissions for firmonertinib. Firmonertinib is an oral, brain-penetrant EGFR inhibitor already approved in China for other EGFR mutations. The drug has received both Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug Designations from the FDA for specific NSCLC indications. In addition to FURVENT, firmonertinib is also being evaluated in other global Phase 3 trials (ALPACCA) and a combination study for patients with classical EGFR mutations.

The upcoming data readout from FURVENT will be a crucial catalyst for ArriVent. Positive results could pave the way for regulatory submissions and potential approval of firmonertinib in a significant NSCLC patient population, solidifying the company’s position in the oncology market. The data will also inform the development strategy for firmonertinib in other ongoing trials and potential combination therapies.
