eGenesis’s human-compatible donor kidneys, EGEN-2784, offer a potential solution to the organ shortage. These kidneys have been genetically modified to overcome rejection and are designed to provide a viable alternative to traditional donor organs.
The company’s donor kidney has three genetic edits: knocking out rejection-causing genes, inserting human genes to regulate immune response, and inactivating endogenous retroviruses in the pig genome. This comprehensive approach aims to minimize rejection and maximize the potential for successful transplantation.
