Entera Bio announced that data from its Phase 2 study of EB613, an oral PTH(1-34) treatment for osteoporosis, was accepted for presentation at the 2025 ASBMR Annual Meeting. The data focuses on the drug’s dual action on trabecular and cortical bone, analyzed using 3D-DXA technology. The study involved 161 postmenopausal women with low bone mass or osteoporosis.

This research holds potential to address a significant gap in osteoporosis care. Current injectable anabolic treatments, while effective, are often unsuitable for many patients who would benefit from this type of intervention. A convenient, once-daily oral option like EB613 could dramatically improve treatment adherence and accessibility, ultimately reducing the risk of fractures in a larger patient population.

The Phase 2 study revealed EB613’s dual action: stimulating bone formation and inhibiting resorption. This was evidenced by changes in biochemical markers and significant increases in bone mineral density (BMD) at all measured skeletal sites compared to both baseline and placebo. The new 3D-DXA analysis further clarifies the drug’s impact on specific bone structures.

The positive Phase 2 results and upcoming presentation at ASBMR signify important progress for EB613. A successful Phase 3 trial could lead to the first oral anabolic treatment for osteoporosis, potentially revolutionizing the management of this widespread condition and offering a much-needed alternative to injections. This advancement could broaden access to effective treatment and improve outcomes for millions of postmenopausal women at high risk for fractures.
