Inquis Medical announced positive results from its AVENTUS IDE trial, evaluating the safety and efficacy of its AVENTUS Thrombectomy System for treating acute intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism (PE). The trial met its primary safety and efficacy endpoints, showing significant improvements in right ventricular function, clot reduction, and patient recovery, with no device-related major adverse events. These findings were presented at the 2025 SCAI Scientific Sessions and published in JSCAI.

This positive data is a significant step forward in PE treatment. Current treatment options can have limitations regarding effectiveness, procedural complexity, and recovery time. The AVENTUS system offers a potentially less invasive and more efficient approach, leading to faster recovery times and improved patient outcomes, as indicated by the trial’s short ICU and hospital stays and increased six-minute walk test distances. This advancement could significantly impact how physicians manage intermediate-risk PE, potentially reducing the burden on healthcare systems and improving the quality of life for patients.

The AVENTUS Trial, a prospective, single-arm, multi-center study involving 130 patients across 22 U.S. sites, confirmed the system’s safety and efficacy. The trial achieved its primary safety endpoint with zero device-related major adverse events. Key efficacy findings include a mean 0.47 reduction in the RV/LV ratio, a 35.9% improvement in the refined Modified Miller Index, and a mean ICU stay of only 0.8 days.

These results pave the way for Inquis Medical to seek broader availability of the AVENTUS Thrombectomy System. Positive clinical data, coupled with the potential for improved patient outcomes and procedural efficiency, positions the AVENTUS System to become a valuable new tool for interventionalists treating PE. This could lead to wider adoption of this technology and potentially stimulate further innovation in the PE treatment landscape.
