Teva Pharmaceuticals presented data at the 2025 Psych Congress Elevate Annual Meeting showcasing positive real-world results for UZEDY (risperidone) in treating schizophrenia and promising Phase 3 trial data for TEV-749 (olanzapine). Studies showed UZEDY improved patient adherence, reduced relapses and hospital visits, and lowered healthcare costs compared to other second-generation oral antipsychotics. TEV-749 demonstrated efficacy and a favorable safety profile, notably with no post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome (PDSS) observed.

These findings are particularly relevant given the challenges in schizophrenia management, including patient adherence to daily medication and the risk of relapse. UZEDY’s demonstrated ability to improve adherence and reduce relapses could significantly enhance long-term outcomes for individuals with schizophrenia. The absence of PDSS with TEV-749 addresses a critical safety concern associated with current olanzapine formulations, potentially offering a safer long-acting treatment option.

Real-world data for UZEDY showed a 9% relapse rate compared to 15.4% for other second-generation oral antipsychotics and 16.8% for oral risperidone. UZEDY also demonstrated a 71.3% adherence rate compared to 52.8% for other second-generation oral antipsychotics. In the SOLARIS trial, TEV-749 met its primary efficacy endpoint, showing significant improvement in PANSS scores across all dose groups. Importantly, no PDSS events were reported after over 3,400 injections.

The positive data for UZEDY reinforces its value as a long-acting treatment option for schizophrenia, potentially improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden on healthcare systems. The promising results for TEV-749 suggest it could become a valuable addition to the schizophrenia treatment landscape, offering a potentially safer and effective long-acting olanzapine formulation. Further research and regulatory review will determine the ultimate impact of TEV-749. The ongoing SOLARIS trial, which will continue to assess long-term safety and efficacy, is crucial for confirming its potential and eventual market entry. These developments underscore the continuous efforts to enhance treatment options and improve the lives of individuals with schizophrenia.
