BriaCell Therapeutics Corp. announced positive Phase 2 survival data for its lead immunotherapy candidate, Bria-IMT, combined with an immune checkpoint inhibitor in metastatic breast cancer. The therapy demonstrated improved median overall survival (OS) compared to Trodelvy and standard chemotherapy in both triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and hormone receptor-positive (HR+) subtypes. Notably, patients enrolled in the study had undergone a median of six prior treatments, highlighting the potential of Bria-IMT in heavily pretreated patients.
These results hold significant promise for patients with advanced breast cancer, particularly those who have exhausted multiple treatment options. The observed improvement in OS over Trodelvy, a recently approved therapy for TNBC and HR+ metastatic breast cancer, suggests that Bria-IMT could become a valuable new treatment option. The lack of treatment-related discontinuations further strengthens the therapy’s potential, pointing to a manageable safety profile in a heavily pretreated population.
In the TNBC cohort, Bria-IMT achieved a median OS of 13.9 months, surpassing Trodelvy’s 11.8 months and doubling the control group’s 6.9 months. For the HR+ subtype, Bria-IMT achieved a median OS of 17.3 months, exceeding Trodelvy’s 14.4 months and the control group’s 11.2 months. The data comes from 54 patients, 37 of whom received the same formulation currently used in BriaCell’s pivotal Phase 3 trial.
These promising Phase 2 results pave the way for BriaCell’s ongoing Phase 3 study, which utilizes overall survival as the primary endpoint. Positive outcomes from this pivotal trial could lead to regulatory approval and significantly alter the treatment landscape for advanced breast cancer, offering new hope for patients with limited options.
