Theranica presented three new real-world studies on their Nerivio® REN wearable at the 2025 American Headache Society meeting. The studies demonstrated the long-term efficacy of the device for migraine treatment over three years, its consistent effectiveness across migraine subtypes (with and without aura), and the benefits of early acute treatment. The device uses remote electrical neuromodulation (REN) to treat both acute and preventive migraine in individuals eight years and older.
These findings are particularly valuable for migraine sufferers who often face challenges in finding long-term, effective, and tolerable treatments. The demonstrated sustained efficacy of the Nerivio device over three years, without evidence of tachyphylaxis or treatment fatigue, offers a promising alternative to traditional pharmaceutical approaches. This is particularly relevant given that many existing migraine medications can lose effectiveness over time or cause undesirable side effects. Furthermore, the device’s demonstrated efficacy in both migraine subtypes, including those with aura which often present with more severe baseline symptoms, reinforces its potential to address a broad spectrum of migraine experiences.
The studies highlighted consistent pain relief, functional recovery, and a reduction in migraine-associated symptoms such as photophobia, phonophobia, and nausea/vomiting. Data from nearly 32,000 patients showed comparable treatment outcomes in both migraine with aura and without aura groups, further supporting the device’s versatility. The three-year study showcasing sustained efficacy is a significant contribution to the understanding of long-term migraine management options.
This data strengthens the position of the Nerivio wearable as a non-drug alternative for migraine treatment. The findings suggest it could be a valuable option for individuals who are unable to tolerate medication, haven’t found pharmaceuticals effective, or are actively seeking non-pharmacological approaches. The continued research and real-world data collection on this device promise to expand the treatment landscape for migraine and potentially improve the quality of life for many sufferers.
