Biomea Fusion announced positive preclinical results for BMF-650, an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist for obesity, in a 28-day study with obese monkeys. Daily food intake also decreased significantly in the treatment groups compared to the control group. BMF-650 was well-tolerated, with no liver enzyme elevations observed. The drug is designed to improve upon the pharmacokinetic properties of current GLP-1 RAs, potentially leading to better patient tolerance and easier dose escalation.
These positive preclinical results pave the way for clinical development of BMF-650. If successful in human trials, BMF-650 could become a prominent therapy in the obesity market, offering a much-needed oral option with the potential for enhanced efficacy and safety.
